The next step

Once you’ve completed basic training, the world of skydiving is wide open to you. During this phase following the basic training, you’ll make numerous solo jumps, and the saying ‘practice makes perfect’ certainly applies to skydiving too.
And that’s not all; the natural nervousness you felt earlier gives way to a sense of freedom and the joy of every jump. You’ll discover all the things you can do during freefall. Once you’ve completed the AFF basic training, you’ll also be responsible for a number of things. Read more about these points below.

Becoming a member of the KNVvL

Skydive Teuge will register you with the KNVvL as a prospective member. Prospective membership remains valid for up to one year after the start of your training course, should you be unable to complete your training within that year.

After that, you must become a member of the KNVvL yourself, even if you did complete your training in the same year you started it. You can join the KNVvL via the link below. Through the KNVvL, you are covered by supplementary insurance for civil liability. You are not permitted to jump without this insurance.

Jumping papers and jumping abroad

Make sure you always have all your documents with you and that they are in order. These are the following documents:

  • Valid KNVvL membership card
  • Logbook with a valid harness test
  • Sports skydiving licence
  • Valid medical declaration

You cannot jump without these documents. Your medical declaration is valid for 2 years; make sure you get a new one before it expires. You must obtain this medical declaration every 2 years as long as you do not hold a B licence.

With these documents, you can jump anywhere in the world! However, the local instructor may want to jump with you on occasion if you have only jumped a few times.

Equipment

During your first 25 jumps, you’ll use equipment provided by Skydive Teuge. This is so that you jump with equipment you’re familiar with.

After that, you can continue to rent equipment, but it’s also possible to buy your own! The advantage of having your own equipment is that you can use it whenever you like. Here are a few tips:

  • Altimeters, helmets, beepers, and other accessories represent a smaller investment than a complete set. That’s why people often choose to buy this equipment for themselves quite quickly.
  • There are several shops in the vicinity of Skydive Teuge where you can buy equipment. You can also ask the Skydive Teuge instruction team for advice.

Did you know that it’s possible to buy good-quality equipment through Facebook? There are groups such as ‘NL Skydiving Gear for Sale and Wanted’ for this purpose. However, especially at the start of your skydiving career, be sure to ask for advice on what you should and shouldn’t buy, and why.

Manifest

As a skydiver at Skydive Teuge, you’re registered in the Dropzone-5 manifest system. To be able to jump, you need credit on your account. You can top this up at the manifest desk or online. Here are a few important tips:

  • We offer a discount package if you purchase 50 high-altitude jumps in one go. This will cost you €1,425 instead of €1,550!
  • The jumps in this package can only be used for jumps you wish to make yourself.
  • It’s also possible to top up your ‘Wallet’. You can use this balance for:
    – Jumps (for yourself or someone else)
    – Equipment hire
    – Drinks/food at the bar
    – Other purchases
  • Please ensure your personal details are correct. Do you have a new address or a new emergency contact? Update your details in your online account.

Keep jumping regularly

An important piece of advice: keep jumping regularly! By jumping regularly, you’ll keep your knowledge and skills up to date. Of course, there may be times when you’re unable to keep jumping. That’s why we have the following rules:

  • If you haven’t jumped for 3 months, you must complete a refresher course.
  • If you haven’t jumped for six months or longer, you must complete an adapted jump in addition to the refresher course.
If you haven’t jumped that often, an instructor may jump with you. You’ll then effectively be doing a new Level 7 AFF jump.

In addition, you’re required to pass a harness test every three months until you’ve obtained your B licence.
